About us:
Oxford Expression Technologies Ltd was founded in 2007. We are planning to move to new bespoke facilities within Oxford Technology Park, Kidlington, Oxfordshire in early summer 2025. We specialise in baculovirus-insect cell protein expression systems. We market kits and products but also undertake custom service projects to make recombinant proteins for industry and academia. Our clients include major vaccine and pharmaceutical companies globally as well as locally-based biotechs.
The role:
We wish to recruit an experienced Laboratory Technician to join our team and help run our new facility at the OTP. The new role will be important in helping to maintain a safe, efficient and well-managed laboratory facility. We will consider appointing at a more senior level for someone with key skills and experience. Training will be provided where necessary and ongoing skill and career development is important.
Key duties and responsibilities:
● Technical support for a life sciences suite of Cat.2 laboratories including managing the wash-up facility, ensuring supply of clean glassware, purified water and sterilised materials
● Ensuring supplies of key plasticware and glass items
● Assisting with disposal of waste materials and chemicals through external contractors
● Assisting with routine calibration and monitoring of equipment
● Assisting with maintaining and ordering stocks of laboratory chemicals and reagents
● Helping to ensure all lab areas are well maintained, clean and organised
● Assistance in the preparation of routine buffers and solutions e.g. LB broth, agar plates and PBS
● In-house laundry of lab coats
● Adherence to health and safety rules
● Other duties, as may be required from time to time, that are consistent with the above.
Skills and experience:
● Good communication, IT and interpersonal skills to work with all members of the company to provide a safe and well organised working environment. The ability to be self-motivated and proactive is important. A relevant BSc or HND is desirable.
● Experience of relevant equipment operation and calibration/maintenance, especially related to the Wash-up facility - autoclave, pure water supply, glasswasher etc.
● Experience of working in a similar Cat.2 laboratory environment.
Salary and other conditions:
Starting salary from c. £27,348 to £30,000 p.a. depending on experience pro rata for part-time. We offer 25 days annual leave (pro rata for part-time) with additional company days at Christmas/New Year, statutory holidays, TOIL, a company pension scheme and BUPA (medical and dental) membership. We offer flexibility between FT or PT working (0.5 to 0.6 FTE preferred) across Monday to Friday; please note this is a lab-based position and WFH is not possible.
