SuperSf9 cells are a development of the Sf9 cell line. These cells have been specifically developed to offer improved protein production characteristics and are ideally suited for high level protein production of difficult protein targets. In tandem with the improved protein expression offered by the flashBAC system and the benefits also offered through optimisation, the use of these cells can offer a further boost to recombinant protein production. There are three types of superSf9 cells, each of which may help improve the production of particular protein targets. We recommend a strategy to test expression in each of the three cell lines to maximise the chance of significantly improved protein levels. We’ll test expression in each of the superSf9 cell lines and then design a bespoke protocol utilising the cell line best suited to producing your protein.
While the expression of difficult proteins attracts most attention, don’t forget that the expression of other proteins can also be boosted. This cell line offers a much prolonged expression time that greatly enhances the yield of stable proteins. These cells are suitable for intracellular, membrane and secreted proteins, provided that these proteins are not subject to degradation.
The effects of toxic proteins on cell health and viability can be extremely problematic when overexpression of recombinant proteins is being undertaken. This cell line features an intense peak of recombinant protein production which makes them ideal for increasing the yield of toxic or highly unstable proteins
In many cases the properties of the protein of interest are either not known or heterogeneous, meaning that one single characteristic may not be critical for improved expression. This cell line has a phenotype intermediate between the SF9-1 and SF9-2 cells and is a good choice for proteins of mixed or unknown character.
