Recombinant Protein Expression In Plants

Oxford Expression Technologies now partners with the innovative Spanish Biotechnology company Agrenvec to offer access to a new platform technology based on the use of viral vectors derived from genetically modified plant viruses. This allows recombinant proteins to be be produced in plants, the advantage of such a sysyem being that recombinant proteins produced in this way can be guaranteed to be free of animal components.

A plant expression project would be focused on the production recombinant proteins in non transgenic plants by transient expression of a viral vector containing the cDNA of the protein of interest, which is purified by FPLC afterwards. The final result is a recombinant protein which may have disulfide bonds or post-translational modifications, with a minimum of 97% purity, fully active and completely animal free.

It is also possible generate the antibodies against these plants-produced proteins; therefore these antibodies have no vertebrate background signal (Clean Antibodies®).

We can produce protein amount from micrograms to grams using the plant system. Should you wish to explore the possibilities in more detail please contact us for a quotation and a discussion.
