BacMam expression service - baculovirus expression in mammalian cells

Use flashBAC to deliver and express genes in Mammalian Cells!

The flashBAC baculovirus expression system is ideally suited for use with the rapidly developing BacMam system, in which baculoviruses are used for protein expression in mammalian cell lines. The BacMam system is gaining in popularity as it offers significant advantages when compared to other mammalian expression techniques.  The key advantages of the system over traditional mammalian expression procedures are –

  • Safe, as baculoviruses will not replicate in mammalian cells
  • Wide host range  – will infect a broad range of mammalian cell types
  • Capable - transient expression allows production of toxic proteins.
  • Non-toxic – Greatly decreased cytotoxicity when compared to traditional transient expression techniques.
  • Flexible – Different viruses can be used in the same experiment as required, to express different proteins to varying concentrations
  • Efficient – High transduction efficiency maximises gene delivery into cells
  • Rapid – much faster than generating a stable cell line for protein production

The flashBAC system is ideally suited to the BacMam, platform as the fast protocol for virus production magnifies the advantages delivered by the BacMam system. If you would like to find out more about OET’s expertise and research with the BacMam system please see our recent papers entitled “Baculovirus as vectors for human cells and applications in organ transplantation” and “Baculovirus as delivery system for gene transfer during hypothermic organ preservation”. What is more OET now offers a BacMam virus production and protein expression testing service, meaning that BacMam expression is now more convenient and accessible than ever.
