Research shows improved expression of membrane and secreted proteins

It is generally assumed that secreted and membrane bound proteins express to lower levels in insect cells than cytoplasmic proteins. However in our latest paper ,Hitchman et al. Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry (2010) 56, (85–93), we have rigorously studied the effect of the deletion of the chiA and cath genes from the expression vector. We have shown that deletion of these genes enhances the expression of a wide variety of proteins. Both our flashBACGOLD and flashBACULTRA vectors have both these genes deleted and can offer you improved expression now!

For more details you can also read about how other gene deletions such as P10 and P74 can  further enhance recombinant protein production in our other recent publication, Hitchman et al, Cell Biol Toxicol. 2010 Feb;26(1):57-68. The flashBACULTRA vector resulted from this work and is the best choice for the most difficult to express proteins!

For an example of the type of results that we obtained refer to the two blots above. They show expression of a recombinant protein over a time course from zero to 120 hours post infection (left to right). The upper blot shows the results obtained using a vector now available as flashBACGOLD . The lower blot shows the results obtained using another popular baculovirus system from another manufacturer. This is representative of the data that we obtained and shows the improvements that are possible when you upgrade to flashBAC!
